ISCE Special Interest Group (SIG)

COMMUNITY/PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH

The purpose of the Special Interest Group (SIG) is to facilitate dialogue between faculty across the Virginia Tech campus who share an interest in community/public health research and programs.  The Institute for Community Health, housed with the Institute for Society, Culture & Environment, convenes the SIG on a quarterly basis through its Conversations Gathering. The SIG draws from multiple disciplines on campus and address all aspects of public health, not only community health.  The intent is of the SIG is to:

  • Enhance networking and sharing of public health research interests and expertise across the Virginia Tech faculty;
  • Offer more in-depth presentations of specific faculty projects at each Conversations Gathering;
  • Identify new collaborative research and funding opportunities;
  • Identify areas for multi-disciplinary conferences and workshops;
  • Coordinate with the emerging new Master of Public Health program at Virginia Tech;
  • Offer a portal for community organizations to find specific faculty interest at Virginia Tech.

For more information on the SIG, please contact Susan West Marmagas, MPH, Research Fellow with the Institute for Community Health at swm@vt.edu or 540.951.0877.
