2026 ISCE Spring ForumThe Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment hosted its spring forum, “Can Generative AI Enrich Social Science?,” on March 31, 2026 at the Virginia Tech Inn and Skelton Conference Center or via Zoom. Duke University sociologist Christopher Bail discussed how generative AI may reshape social science research and addressed concerns about bias, ethics, and research quality.

Foundation Funders Webinar: Individual Fellowships and Grants for Advancing the Liberal ArtsThe Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment, in partnership with Virginia Tech Foundation Relations, hosted a webinar titled “Foundation Funders Webinar: Individual Fellowships and Grants for Advancing the Liberal Arts” on November 6, 2025. Program officers from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Teagle Foundation, and the Social Science Research Council shared their priorities, award and grant making practices, and tips for success.

ISCE 2025 Connections and ConversationsThe Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment invited new and returning faculty from all colleges with interests in the social sciences and humanities to attend ISCE Connections and Conversations on September 10 at the Hahn Horticulture Garden. The event offered opportunities to connect with colleagues and to learn more about ISCE through a brief program that highlighted how the institute supports social science research.
